Open Monumentendag Rotterdam

More than 60 Rotterdam monuments open their doors for the Open Monument Day Rotterdam. Visitors can once again browse to their heart's content in well-known and lesser-known monumental buildings that open their doors to the public free of charge. Those who want to learn more or experience something special are in luck; there have never been so many free activities. With extra attention this year for the national theme: 'On the road! – Routes, networks and connections'.

Don't be surprised if someone suddenly jumps over the heads of the audience at the historic shipyard De Koningspoort. Freerunners from Rotterdam Street Culture Week will set out their course in the Oude Haven for a real freerun competition. "Every year we interpret the theme as broadly as possible. This year it is 'On the way!'. And if freerunning isn't a surprising way to get from A to B?! And then also surrounded by our sailing heritage." It doesn't get any better than this, according to project coordinator Ericia de Fatima. A programme is also being created in the Waalse Kerk and the Koopmanshuis together with RSCW.

On the way - There is also a guided tour along monumental bridges, an open-air lecture at Hofplein station, a symphony orchestra plays 'De Nieuwe Wereld' on the ss Rotterdam and, as every year, there is a cheerful new monument route that this year you will not do by bike but by Rotterdam public transport! You can download the route from the website or get it from our information point in the Groot Handelsgebouw.

Newcomers - Of course, the familiar concept of the Open Monument Day is back; Rotterdam monuments open their doors to the public. In addition to familiar buildings such as De Hef, Hotel New York, the Koopmanshuis, the Rotterdamsche Manège and the Laurenskerk, there are also a number of 'newcomers' in the programme. Visit Herenhuis Schiekade 77, the Lucy Havelaarhuis, Loodswezen, Wyt-drukkerij. Or the Rotterdamsche Zeilvereeniging, where extra attention is being paid to architect Willem van Tijen because of the Van Tijen year.

Love between the rowing boats - There is also a lot to discover and experience for children. Studio de Bakkerij plays a sweet love story for the neighbourhood between the historic rowing boats in the jubilee club building of rowing club Nautilus in De Esch. In the Van Nelle Factory, 3D sketches are practiced following a good example of Het Nieuwe Bouwen. And in the Lambertuskerk, you can get started with a real do-organ and in the Muziekwerf there are music workshops.

Many monuments are freely accessible, the activities are (almost) all free, but sometimes advance reservations are required.
