NoSo’s music touches on the sense of alienation that arises at the intersection of origin, gender and identity. Their spatial arrangements — sometimes enriched with saxophone or strings — unfold like tender dream scenes from a forgotten 80s ballroom. Themes such as mental health, platonic heartbreak and power dynamics in relationships are brought to the dance floor with visual precision and emotional depth — recognizable and poignant, regardless of genre, age or orientation.

On When Are You Leaving?, NoSo’s sophomore album, singer/songwriter/producer Baek Hwong (they/he) trades the dream for reality. Where previous songs longed for “straight hips” and “simple limbs” — in anticipation of their transition — this album asks a different question: What happens when you get what you’ve always wanted, but with it comes new struggles?
