NN North Sea Jazz Festival

The festival, officially the NN North Sea Jazz Festival since 2018, has now developed into a major international event that has grown over the years to fifteen stages, approximately thirteen hundred musicians and an annual visitor number of between eighty-five and ninety thousand. Since 2006, the festival has also been organized in a new and larger location: Rotterdam Ahoy.

The first edition of the North Sea Jazz Festival took place in 1976 in the Dutch Congress Building in The Hague. The starting figures: six concert halls, three hundred musicians and about nine thousand visitors. In this very first year of the festival, jazz legends such as Sarah Vaughan, Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie and Stan Getz performed. And a complete overview of the Dutch avant-garde was presented.

RAYE, Sting and Jamie Cullum were previously announced for NN North Sea Jazz 2024 and new acts have been added! North Sea Jazz has also announced their 'Artist in Residence': Meshell Ndegeocello. The music of the singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist is actually too comprehensive to be classified as jazz. Soul, funk and even hip hop are also tailor-made for Ndegeocello.
