Nachtdiersymfonie: beleef het donker
What did the Netherlands sound like at night 130,000 years ago? On Saturday 24 October, visitors can experience that for themselves during an evening walk through the Kralingse Bos.
What did the Netherlands sound like 130,000 years ago at night, when there was barely any artificial light and humans shared the night with mammoths, cranes and lynxes? On Saturday, October 24, visitors can hear that for themselves during De Nachtdiersymfonie, a unique audio walk through the Kralingse Bos. With headphones on, we will walk about 3 kilometres through the forest, while being taken back to a nocturnal Netherlands of 130,000 years ago. The night back then stands in stark contrast to the night now: the Netherlands is now among the countries with the most light pollution worldwide. The Natuur en Milieufederaties draw attention to this annually during the Nacht van de Nacht (https://nachtvandenacht.nl/). Because just think about it: what does light pollution actually do to the night, to animals and to our own experience of the dark? There are two walks on Saturday, November 24. Times: • Round 1 arrival 18:15, start of walk 19:30 • Round 2 arrival 19:30, start of walk 19:45 Meeting point: Car park of The Beach House Kralingse Plas
