Muzikale reis met Jiwa Jiwa
Take a musical journey in the Tax & Customs Museum. We connect colonial taxation, resistance and opium with music that makes this history tangible. Curator, DJ and musical anthropologist Jiwa Jiwa (Sekan) will take you on a unique listening session during the Canon Days on 17 and 18 May using a special HiFi sound system.
In the atmospheric Kuypersalon of the Tax & Customs Museum, Jiwa Jiwa takes you on an in-depth listening session. Through carefully selected pieces of music, a layered story becomes visible about the role of colonialism, oppression and autonomy, profit and loss, collaboration and resistance. Jiwa Jiwa, who explores these themes for his upcoming book Soundwriters , creates an intimate and layered experience in which sound and history come together, and weaves sound and context into a penetrating meditation on power, exploitation and cultural identity. His critical and provocative approach challenges us to look at the past and our current society with a new perspective.
