meetup VPRO Tegenlicht: Naomi Klein en De ruk naar Rechts

After the results of the European elections of June 6, we will be looking for inspiration for the political future on Thursday, June 20. The book Doppelgangers by Naomi Klein is central to this. In our meetup VPRO Tegenlicht: Naomi Klein and the Jerk to the Right we investigate what we can do in Rotterdam to strengthen democracy and social activist initiatives. MWhat does it take to shape a positive future? Which activist movements are currently working to change the narrative in Trump City Rotterdam? From Right to the City, which stands up against the threatened gentrification, which hangs over the city like a dark cloud, to the students at Erasmus University who have joined demonstrations for Free Palestine and a mayor who did not fly the Jewish flag but rather remains in conversation with all faiths in the city. Before we can talk about peace and love, we must first deal with our own intergenerational trauma. In this meetup we talk about what we can do in Rotterdam to strengthen the collective from the bottom up, where everyone can be radically hopeful. Meet-up VPRO Tegenlicht Rotterdam is created by Nynke Schaaf of ConComCow, Connecting Communities in Coworking.

Guests are: Florian Cramer and Tine De Moor and the initiative The Niteshop by Malique Mohamud

WDKA lecturer Florian Cramer.

His work focuses on multidisciplinary, organized, communal art practices. The initiative The Niteshop (embassy of the super-diverse city, works based on street culture) is also present at the Tegenlicht010 meetup.

About Doppelgängers:

With humor and self-insight, Klein reports on her growing obsession with another public intellectual. Why have so many of our loved ones, like her, left for an inimitable reality that is nevertheless frighteningly similar to ours? Naomi Klein's book Doppelgängers is included in the Netherlands Collection and can be reserved via the Rotterdam library website.

Meet-up keywords: collective, polarization, European elections, Doppelganger, mirror world, conspiracy theory, conspiracy, populism, distrust, democracy, rule of law.
