Maktub sings the new song of life, with texts by Rotterdam writers and classics in a contemporary musical guise.

Rowan de Vos and Lisse Knaapen perform traditional life songs in a modern musical guise, with humor and melancholy, under the name 'Maktub'.

You imagine yourself in a brown café with songs about dreams, about being human. They sing about the battle between city and nature, depressed people, hope, the longing for freedom and love, greed and life in Rotterdam.

Rotterdam writers such as Jana Beranová, Elfie Tromp and Myrte Leffring have written texts for them, and you will also hear classics by Jacques Brel and Toon Hermans in 'Maktub' version. Everything inspired by cabaret and chansons with music in a contemporary style, so that the sound is also linked to the times in which we live.

Pianist-composer Rowan de Vos (Dawn Brothers, Next of Kin) and singer-actress Lisse Knaapen (SKY, Emma Wil Leven, Soldaat van Oranje) previously created the performances 'Café Heelal' under the name 'Maktub', which will be held in 2022. the Heerenhuys stood, and in 2023 the performance 'O. Oh Rotterdam' in collaboration with the O. Festival.
