M4H in de Maak: Stadsgesprek Coöperatief Bouwen
In the Netherlands, driven by community spirit and affordability, a strong growth in cooperative building and living can be observed. Initiatives in the cities of Utrecht, Almere, Groningen, Amsterdam and Breda are taking the lead in this. There are also many Rotterdam residents who would like to start a housing cooperative in their city, in order to shape their own housing dreams together. In the meantime, the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations in The Hague is working hard to set up the National Fund for Housing Cooperatives , for which an amount of €40 million was reserved during the previous cabinet. This fund should provide a financial stimulus for the start and realisation of housing cooperatives in the country. During this third episode of the series 'M4H in the making', a number of inspiring examples of cooperative building and living will be presented in plenary session and we will discuss how a housing cooperative can be set up. Clemens Mol (Stichting !WOON) will take us through the development process with the presentation of the Handbook for Housing Cooperatives and will give a presentation and update on the developments of the new National Fund for Housing Cooperatives , which should become available early next year. Architect/author Marieke Kums (Studio Maks) will give us a first glimpse into the soon to be published book ' The architecture of housing cooperatives ', based on specific German practices. Finally, Tjeerd Haccou (Space & Matter) will be present to talk about the working method of Crowdbuilding , a method to realize affordable dream homes together with a group.
In the second part of the evening, various ambitions and practices will be unraveled and discussed in small groups at tables with the attendees. And we will look for the tipping point to actually achieve the realization of collective building and living in Rotterdam and in particular the first housing cooperatives.
This session, moderated by Arie Lengkeek (author of Operation Housing Cooperative: out of the housing crisis through communal ownership and former board member of the Rotterdam Housing Association) is largely interactive, focusing on the essential conditions, principles and qualities of cooperative development, construction and living.
