Literaire maaltijd met dichter kunstenaar Hans Wap

Hans Wap made his debut as a poet as early as 1967 and his latest collection A Nightmare in a Striped Pajama was recently published. Wap was part of the Rotterdam poet scene (with poets such as Jules Deelder, Cor Vaandrager and Riekus Waskowsky) and in 1969 was involved in the Prose and Poetry Secretariat ('Propo'), the predecessor of Poetry International. After the 1960s and 1970s, Hans Wap worked mainly as a graphic artist, painter and draftsman. He continued to act as a poet, but published less. Wap's latest collection contains not only poems, but also drawings. Almost every poem is accompanied by a small pen drawing in black and white.

Wap's poetry is anecdotal and disruptive. Don't expect many big words and poetic layers. The often short-lined, straightforward poems are written in plain language. The advantage of this is that the poems look remarkably fresh and appeal directly to the reader. In this way, Wap keeps us on our toes.
