Lezing Kees Moeliker over De kikkerkamasutra
The Frog Kama Sutra
Kees Moeliker
Join Kees Moeliker in marveling at the rough edges of animal sex, the joys of bird song and other natural pleasures
The hooded gull, the elastic stork, the swallowing fish and the McFlurry hedgehog. As a museum biologist, Kees Moeliker gives the dead animal a leading role in his stories, but living nature – especially that of the city – is also a constant source of inspiration for him. Together with his sharp eye for improbable research, remarkable animal behaviour and art-with-a-wink-to-nature, this guarantees a book full of stories interspersed with science in which he makes his own voice heard in a dryly comical way. Along the way, he even takes the mickey out of our crooked relationship with nature.
The Frog Kama Sutra is a book about the rough edges of animal sex, the search for the last pubic lice, the joys of birdsong, cormorants that poop on cars, extraordinary (natural) researchers, feeding ducks, artificial grass, the leaf blower and the Blokker crow.
Kees Moeliker (1960) is a passionate biologist. He has worked for 35 years at the Natural History Museum Rotterdam, where he brought the dead collection to life. His discovery of homosexual necrophilia in the mallard earned him the coveted Ig Nobel Prize. His previous works include The Duck Man, The Tick's Buttocks and The Mus' Balls .
