Lezing - Frans Hals door drs. Patricia Huisman, kunsthistorica

In the coming months, no fewer than fifty masterpieces by Frans Hals will be on display in the Rijksmuseum. Due to his loose, almost impressionistic way of painting, Hals is seen as one of the most innovative portrait painters of the seventeenth century.

Musicians, shooters, merchants, they look at us with a smile. The cheerful drinker and Malle Babbe are typical examples of Hals' characteristic loose touch and lively facial expression.

In this lecture, art historian Patricia Huisman from www.kunstisleuk.nl will guide you through the life and oeuvre of Frans Hals. His free brushstroke, the use of color, the symbolism in his work and his influence on other artists are discussed.

The works in this exhibition come from international collections and are indicative of the expressive, entertaining style that makes the Haarlem master so famous.

Ready to meet Frans Hals? Come to the lecture and you will go home as happy as his models!
