Kinds of Kindness

Yorgos Lanthimos did not have to wait long, because barely three weeks after Poor Things won four Oscars, the first trailer for his latest film Kinds of Kindness was released. Since then we have been eagerly awaiting more. Kinds of Kindness is a three-part myth about a man without choice who tries to take control of his own life; a police officer alarmed that his missing wife has returned and appears to be a different person; and a woman determined to find a specific person with a special gift, who is destined to become a miraculous spiritual leader. In contrast to the extravagant Poor Things, Kind of Kindness bears some resemblance to the style of the Coen brothers. The film stars Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley and Emma Stone, all known for Poor Things, alongside Joe Alwyn, who previously played Stone's husband in Lanthimos' 2018 film, The Favorite . Other cast members include Jesse Plemons, Hong Chau, Mamoudou Athie and Hunter Schafer. Lanthimos co-wrote the film with Efthimis Filippou, with whom he previously worked on The Lobster , Killing of a Sacred Deer and Dogtooth .
