Joe Bel

Joe Bel was born into a cosmopolitan family, and grew up traveling between the French Alps, the Mediterranean and North America. She developed a love for music at an early age. She was touched by the records of Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Otis Redding, but also by the traditional Jewish-Spanish songs that her family holds dear. In 2012, at the age of 23, she took her first steps on stage, solo and with only her guitar as accompaniment. A few months later, Asaf Avidan discovered her haunting folk soul, and promptly offered her all support slots on his European tour. Joe's critically acclaimed EP Hit the Roads took her across Europe and even Japan, and in 2020 she began writing Family Tree , an intergenerational album exploring her multiple heritages. The album is a beautiful combination of folk, boisterous melodies and Mediterranean colours, on which Bel sings in English and French, but also in Ladino, the old Spanish still spoken by her grandfather.
