Jessica Skowroneck - Where the two worlds touch
Studio Seine presents the solo exhibition 'Where the two worlds touch' with paintings and drawings by Jessica Skowroneck.
Jessica Skowroneck's paintings and drawings are inner landscapes. They show spaces that exist at the intersection of the conscious and the unconscious, between imagination and reality.
Skowroneck grew up in Sweden and nature has always been very important to her. She uses the landscape as a self-portrait, as a metaphor for body and mind, in which the interior and exterior come together. This creates a fusion of two worlds that influence each other and flow into each other.
The desire for a child, processing old trauma and regaining a sense of security in a turbulent world are recurring themes that are subtly incorporated in the title and image. Skowroneck's relationship with nature, her love life, cats and garden support the theme.
The painting process should allow for spontaneous brushstrokes, colors and shapes. By working quickly, Skowroneck lets her intuition guide her in the studio. The results are often on the interface of figuration and abstraction.
She often uses the vertical format because she likes the association with a door or a gate. The viewer is invited to step over an imaginary threshold into a painted world where nothing is exactly as it seems: the ground can shift, mountains can move. Rocks, rivers and trees are creatures with free will – the personalities in these paintings with their own mysterious purpose.
