Liam: "I actually didn't work from a concept from the beginning. I had a clear feeling of how it should feel: challenging. A strange rhythm, a strange time signature. Let's start with that. I couldn't really do much more than drum, so that's your starting point, and from there it's just learning and experimenting."
That odd rhythm is definitely audible on Balcony Games. And there's more to the album: from his distorted vocals to the skipping wind instruments and the atypical song structures. How this then alternates with soft, tender moments on, for example, "I Can't Rely" and "I'll Stick Around" makes for an intriguing, captivating, and at times somewhat uncanny listening experience.
