Izaline Calister & Millennium Jazz Orchestra
The Millennium Jazz Orchestra brings a fascinating program, around water and poetry. Against the background of climate change, composer Joan Reinders set poems by famous (climate) poets to music, which are sung by the charismatic singer Izaline Calister.
Expect a sultry and captivating musical spectacle. With his own MJO, supplemented by the young harpist Sanne Bakker, Joan Reinders will conjure up everything from his musical hat: from warm-blooded ballads to rousing Latin jazz with Caribbean influences. The orchestra members improvise virtuously and the soothing harp gets a special role in this vibrant whole. The story is also told visually with images of water and climate change.
Special attention is given to the vulnerable position of islands. Izaline Calister – born and raised on Curaçao – has made a selection of poems about islands. Sometimes literally, sometimes more intuitively. Poems with a "sea feeling, I have to hear it splashing", according to Izaline.
The Millennium Jazz Orchestra is now one of the top Dutch jazz orchestras. It has built up a solid reputation with successful tours such as the Bernstein Celebration Tour, the Gershwin Celebration Tour, O Verde do Brasil and Water. Izaline Calister's beautiful timbre fits perfectly into the musical idiom of the MJO. She effortlessly conquers the audience with her captivating style, sometimes subdued, then again rousing. This concert takes place in the context of World Water Day on March 22.
