IFFR x Erasmus - A Complete Unknown
In the run-up to the Netherlands' largest film festival at the end of January, we'd like to spotlight one of last year's top films: A Complete Unknown about Bob Dylan.
About A Complete Unknown :
In A Complete Unknown, we follow Bob Dylan through the first four years of his career, from his arrival in New York to the beginning of his electric period. We observe his love life, his encounters with other folk musicians, and above all—lots of music.
Timothée Chalamet convincingly portrays Dylan, searching for his own path, troubled by mounting pressure from his environment. Johnny Cash, Dave Van Ronk, and other musicians also make an appearance. Pete Seeger, the father figure of modern folk music, is beautifully brought to life by Edward Norton. Dylan's turbulent love life also plays a significant role. We see how, while composing, he moves back and forth between Sylvie Russo and Joan Baez, without truly being able to make a choice.
