In this new edition of IFFR Filmclub x Dokhuis we will show three films, each of which questions reality in their own way using performance art. After the films we will talk to the makers and there will be a snack and a drink. The films are subtitled in English and the discussion will be held in English.
About the movies
Turtle Walk (Hosein Danesh, 2020)
In this performance-based video, creator Danesh crosses the busy West Kruiskade in Rotterdam extremely slowly (as slow as a turtle). How do other road users deal with this?
This short documentary follows a young artist and his friends in Rotterdam. They wander around in a life they experience as a pleasant hell , but find each other in music and creativity. In Pleasant Hell , filmmaker Suzanne Koopstra interweaves contemplative camerawork with creative production design, in which the inner world of her characters is made visible in an inventive way.
Based on research and interviews with both Palestinian hunger strikers and asylum seekers, this absurdist yet realistic film stages a dialogue with the director in her native language, focusing on one question: what do we know about hunger? Filmmaker Diana Al-Halabi won the RTM Pitch Prize at IFFR 2023, which enabled her to realize this film.
