Mahler's 10th symphony is surrounded by stories and despite the fact that he wrote this impressive work with his last life energy, it was not entirely finished. Several great composers such as Schönberg tried to complete it afterwards. It took 52 years before the first playable version was available. The version that we hear in the HortusFestival (F. Bouwman) is notated as accurately as possible for 2 pianos. Piano duo Ralph van Raat and Maarten van Veen have recorded several large orchestral works for 2 pianos with various labels.

Vincent Bijlo delves into the stories surrounding the fascinating life of Julius Röntgen and his contemporaries. This important Dutch composer and key figure meant a lot to Dutch musical life. He founded the Amsterdam Conservatory and was at the cradle of the Concertgebouw. What kind of time was that? And what stories emerge that we did not yet know? Come and listen to 'Julius radiant music', a performance specially created for the HortusFestival.

Extra:

A 30-minute concert surrounded by Himalayan salt blocks and matching music.

At Rozenlust in Rotterdam we discovered a beautiful space, made entirely of salt blocks from the Himalayas. The salt blocks have a cleansing effect on the airways and your body. On travels through the Himalayas, composer Gurdjieff encountered the most beautiful melodies. Dreaming away to this music, you will be cleansed from head to toe. A unique experience!
