HEDDA GABBER try-out - Studio Deddens

A club night on crack, an ode to the madness that arises when you come to a standstill for a moment.

Hedda Gabler returns after 135 years in a theatrical rave.

The world of 2026 races on like an incessant DJ set. (F)influencers, career gurus, and productivity pimps hold sway. The mantra of modern times seems clear: standing still is falling behind.

In Hedda Gabber, Daniëlle Deddens dusts off Ibsen's famous character for a hardstyle performance. Through the confrontation between this character—who has succumbed to boredom—and a Gen Zer for whom boredom seems impossible, Daniëlle, together with musician/producer Wijnand Gomes, explores the concept of stagnation in 2026. Is humanity still capable of boredom in today's neoliberal society? And how do you stand still in a world on fire?

Hedda Gabber is a club night on crack, an ode to the madness that arises when you come to a standstill for a moment. Daniëlle Deddens acts, sings, and moves her way through a fluid theatrical world: from hyperpop kitsch to sultry ballads, Ibsen quotes to TikTok language. With a healthy dose of Gen Z anxiety but a deep-seated belief that it will all work out, we dance the night away. Because after the chaos, there is always silence.
