Head South

Head South, the opening film of the IFFR 2024, is an entertaining, energetic and semi-autobiographical coming-of-age film that makes you long for the post-punk scene of the 1970s. Christchurch, New Zealand 1979. Angus is a gullible teenager who does everything he can to fit in. He is deeply drawn to the underground post-punk music scene. Determined to become part of this attractive but volatile subculture, Angus distances himself from his real friends and lies about his musical abilities to his new "friends." Overtaken by his own deception, he will have to quickly become the musician he claims to be and he will have to perform with a band that does not (yet) exist.
