Hatkulya
Rotterdam is a true jazz city. Musicians from all over the world come here to study and stay to live and work.
The same goes for today's bandleader, bassist Barış Ofluoğlu. He formed a quintet with friends from Codarts and named it “Hatkulya”. The music draws much inspiration from tradition, particularly from the work of Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington and Charles Mingus. The group explores the possibilities of storytelling with the timeless line-up of trumpet, saxophone, drums, bass and piano. This traditional line-up offers a clear starting point and ensures a clear direction. The music has an introspective character, but is at the same time self-aware and powerful. A quintet with five great talents from the Rotterdam school. It promises to be a wonderful jazz Sunday! We believe that music should be accessible to everyone and therefore we do not charge ticket fees. You can contribute, however: come and enjoy a meal after the concert with a daily special arrangement. For € 16.50 pp you don't have to cook at home anymore and you end the weekend well. Moreover, you support Het Witte Paard in this way to organize our jazz performances. This is the tastiest way to make good music possible.
