What is inspiration? It seems like a boring process. A poet stares out of the window and writes something about a bird. But a poet doesn't always stare out of his window to find inspiration. How does this work? Where does it come from? And why does it work for some and not for others? Is there actually room in today's controlled society for something as intangible as inspiration? What beautiful things will arise if we all let go of control?

Some poets believe that inspiration comes from outside themselves – from Martians, ghosts or shadows who pass on poetry. It is the poet's job to translate this alien language into poetry as best he can. But if the poet is just a conduit, who is responsible for what appears on paper?
