Fri Yeye is an impressive theatre production that will return in 2025, by popular demand. The piece was part of the 2024 Remembrance Year and touches on deep feelings, painful truths and hopeful celebration.
Based on the well-known work of Celestine Raalte, Fri Yeye shows the stories of three generations of women: a grandmother, a mother and a daughter. Together they experience Ketikoti, the day on which the abolition of slavery is commemorated. But: how do you celebrate freedom when that freedom arose from pain?
