Fred Hersch (solo) solo

As a headstrong young man, Hersch left his hometown of Cincinnati to try his luck in New York. There he quickly became a much sought-after session musician. He also played in the bands of Lee Konitz and Art Farmer. Fred now has dozens of albums to his name and just as many with other greats such as Stan Getz and Joe Henderson. In his constant pursuit of absolute beauty, he inspires a whole generation of pianists, such as Brad Mehldau and Ethan Iverson, who were taught by him. Fred's signature poetic play has taken on an extra dimension after he narrowly escaped death a few years ago. Hersch now has more than seventeen Grammy nominations to his name. The masterful pianist - he is now one of the greatest and most highly regarded jazz pianists of our time - plays in all kinds of formations. He made his 2022 album Breath By Breath with a string quartet, and in 2023 the beautiful Alive At The Village Vanguard was released together with Esperanza Spalding. This time he comes to Rotterdam solo, a role that is tailor-made for him, following the release of the beautiful album Silent, Listening on the prestigious German quality label ECM Records.
