Fossielenexpeditie Portlantis
During this expedition on the Maasvlakte beach, fossil hunter Walter Langendoen explains the search for archaeological and paleontological treasures.
When sand was reclaimed from the deep North Sea bed, these remains of ancient life ended up on the Maasvlakte beach. Walter lives in Hellevoetsluis and searches for fossils on the Maasvlakte beach every day. His collection now includes thousands of finds, including hyena droppings, mammoth bones, vole teeth, and much more. During the expedition, Walter will examine your finds so you know what you've found.
Boots on!
Before the expedition, participants will receive a brief explanation of how to search for fossils. During the expedition, you will walk along the beach and the high-tide line. Please wear boots or other suitable footwear. The trip lasts approximately two hours. Please be aware that there are no restrooms on the beach.
The fossil expedition is not suitable for very young children. Generally, children in upper elementary school and older will find it a good fit. If you do want to participate with young children, please make sure there are plenty of activities available.
