Join this three-part workshop series to explore the craft of papermaking with artist Carla Belksma! This workshop is suitable for beginners and artists who are not afraid to get their hands dirty.
We'll be taking a journey through waste streams from Dokhuis and the surrounding area: old paper and scraps from a printing house, kitchen waste, and textiles. Each session will feature a different raw material, which we'll then use to create pulp. The resulting sheets of paper will be hung up to dry in Dokhuis, forming a growing exhibition.
In the first two sessions, we'll actually make paper using various techniques: scooping and casting. In the third session, we'll explore and feel what paper actually is, the key differences between handmade paper and factory-made paper, the important properties, and how you can influence and apply them.
All tools and materials will be provided for the workshop. Feel free to bring old postcards, the contents of the hole punch on your desk, small flowers, or threads to incorporate into the paper. An old piece of clothing (preferably made of organic material) is also suitable.
