Flatland Prayer

Flatland Prayer

At its core, Flatland Prayer is an improvisatory chamber ensemble. Within those confines, however, the trio pulls from a wide variety of influences, combining elements of American folk, avant-garde jazz, and contemporary Classical music. Vocalist Liva Dumpe and trumpeter Antonio Moreno skillfully interpret River Adomeit's songwriting, bringing storytelling to the forefront.

The trio integrates visual elements and spoken word as readily as conventional musical elements to convey the unique narrative of each performance. To watch Flatland Prayer is like looking in through their murky living room window, aware that you are witnessing an intimate exchange without quite understanding what it is.

For their debut album release of “Like Staring Straight into the Sun,” Flatland Prayer will perform the record in its entirety, featuring Bjørk Semey with corresponding visuals and animation. In this performance, Bjørk will become the fourth band member, triggering a combination of video and animation in real-time. River's lyric writing places a heavy emphasis on visual metaphor, which is core to the aesthetic of Flatland Prayer. In certain cases, Bjørk's interactive multimedia work will serve to illuminate these metaphors- in other cases, to obscure them further.
