Firebrand

As the sixth wife of the Catholic British monarch Henry VIII (Jude Law), the Protestant Catharine Parr (Alicia Vikander) tries to influence her husband, and with that the rest of the kingdom. When the sick and paranoid Henry returns from the battlefield, he loses his grip on reality and directs his anger at (Protestant) radicals. When he even has Catharine's childhood friend Anne Askew executed, she fights in fear for her marriage, and at the same time for her own life.

Firebrand offers a contemporary, feminist look at the palace intrigues of the Tudor era and the final years of the infamous King Henry VIII. Director Karim Aïnouz (The Invisible Life of Euridice Gusmao) brings this haunting history to life alongside actors Alicia Vikander (The Green Knight, Tomb Raider, The Danish Girl) and Jude Law (The New Pope, Sherlock Holmes, The Nest).
