Film Stories #2: Amanda van Hesteren

Film Stories, curated by Rotterdam-based film production company mint2, is a series of film events centered around a single director and their work. Film Stories presents the full picture of filmmaking, with all the compromises, decisions, and dilemmas that come with it. Setbacks and how to overcome them are central to the conversation between the filmmaker, moderator, and audience.

Filmmaker Amanda van Hesteren will be our guest during the second edition of Film Stories and will join us for a night filled with her work. We will watch her most recent films Mama en ik (2019) and I Want to Go Higher (2023). The latter premiered at the IFFR and won Best Dutch Film at the Go Short International Film Festival in Nijmegen. Operating between visual arts and filmmaking, she recently had a German solo show in the Kino of the Kölnischen Kunstverein.

Dive into the works of this talented filmmaker and discuss the barriers she had to overcome to create her films. During a conversation with mint2's filmmaker Flo Meijer, we’ll also discuss her earlier works Lazar: An Interesting Holiday Lover Opens Up (2016) and Clive: My Holiday Lover in Jamaica (2017), which have been screened at several art festivals in the Netherlands and Belgium.
