But Wanda refuses to accept this. Is it a liberation to no longer have to meet expectations, or does life feel empty when you are no one to others?

A story about resilience

After the age of 40, women seem to slowly disappear from contemporary visual culture. If they are visible at all, they are expected to look 30. They are allowed to share their menopausal struggles, but that is as far as it goes. Why are there no leading roles for them? Why do the stories stop when adult life is only just beginning? 'Wanda’s Sleepless Night' is not about motherhood or menopause. It is an absurdist, visual, and loving narrative about the aging woman who refuses to accept her invisibility. Femke Arnouts, theatre maker, actor, and writer, is known for her absurd, tragicomic, and physical work. She takes you from concrete situations to increasingly absurd worlds, often using the awkward human being as a starting point.
