Duizend Dagen Unplugged LUSU Experience

Duizend Dagen Unplugged is a small-scale, intimate version of the tragicomic musical theatre production Duizend Dagen, about the experiences of Javanese Surinamese in the Netherlands. It explores generational differences, life between three continents, and a long-suppressed colonial past.

In a unique living room setting, you, as a visitor, sit close to the story. You sit at the table with the performers and share a meal. In this way, food, music, stories, and meeting others become part of the theatrical afternoon.

We follow brother and sister Asmodikromo, who gather a thousand days after their mother's death for the final slametan: a ritual meal that concludes the mourning period. During the preparations, old grief, mutual differences, and unspoken family histories surface.

Through music, song, memories, rituals, and food, the brother and sister try not only to commemorate their mother but also to keep their culture alive. At the same time, each in their own way, they resist the stereotype of ' the obedient Javanese ' and the prejudices and transgenerational traumas they carry with them.

In this unplugged version, the boundary between audience and players blurs. You do not just watch the story, but are invited to listen, eat, remember, and meet together.

Do they dare to become visible, when remaining invisible has been a survival mechanism for generations?
