De Zoon van Gazelle 8+
Storytelling Centre and the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra
There is a boy who grows up on an island where he is the only human. He is friends with a gazelle, who takes good care of him and he also makes friends with other animals. He does not know how he got there and goes on a journey of discovery on his own. While thinking, he gets more and more big questions about life. Then another man appears on the island, who introduces him to the inhabited world. But he does not like this right away!
How did life begin? What makes humans different from animals? What can we learn from nature? How can you be a good person? These are the questions the boy asks himself in The Son of the Gazelle. It is a philosophical performance, full of music and stories that are recognizable for today.
The story is based on the famous twelfth-century book Hayy ibn Yaqzan, written by Ibn Ṭufayl, an Andalusian philosopher and scientist. Sabine Wassenberg and Kamel Essabane turned it into a children's book, which was named the best philosophical children's book in 2022.
Now Karim Amghar and Hamza Amrani of the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra bring this special story to life in a musical performance. For everyone from eight years old – an adventure you don't want to miss!
