De Sint-Nikolaasavond

Theater Kwast takes a trip to the nineteenth century with this Sinterklaas story by the nineteenth-century poet De Génestet. His bestseller about the revelation of family secrets on Christmas Eve is centuries old, but still very much alive. A unique theater solo from behind the writing desk of Génestet himself in the beautiful Arminius Church.

It is St. Nicholas Eve 1847. In an Amsterdam canal house, a genuine Christmas Eve is taking place, but the daughter of the house is deeply unhappy, while her father is mainly concerned with the family's appearance. Nothing is dearer to him than his knighthoods. Under the guise of the St. Nicholas celebration, the lady of the house decides to put things in order.

A real classic for the Sinterklaas period, created in a time when the Sinterklaas celebration took on its familiar form with gingerbread, poems, songs, naughty children and a terrifying Saint Nicholas, without a servant or Black Pete, because the Good Saint Nicholas still appeared without entourage.
