The spoonbill—the iconic white wading bird with its distinctive spoon-shaped beak—is symbolic of one of the Netherlands' greatest conservation successes. Once nearly extinct in Western Europe, the species is now making an impressive comeback. The Wadden Sea offers a safe haven, but even near Amsterdam, young spoonbills are being raised. Using advanced scientific techniques, this documentary follows the bird's epic journey: from the Netherlands to Southern Europe and deep into Africa. Along the way, we discover how the spoonbill managed to survive thanks to the Netherlands—and what challenges await it in a changing world. Come see this film at Romeynshof!
