Harry Belafonte is unfortunately no more. He died in 2023 at the age of 96. Fortunately, Leoni Jansen, Izaline Calister, Thijs Borsten and Roël Calister had already made a performance about him in honor of his 95th birthday. It is incredible what has changed in his life and in his century. This versatile, committed man deserves a musical tribute.

Almost everyone knows Harry Belafonte as the handsome singer of catchy songs such as Island in the Sun, Matilda and Day-O. But there is much more: until his death, Belafonte spoke out firmly and with humor about political abuses and inequality. No respect of persons: Martin Luther King was his friend, but he called Condoleezza Rice and Colin Powell 'Bush's house slaves'.

He organized and financed demonstrations for the Civil Rights movement, starred in the first film in which a black man had a relationship with a white woman and became an ambassador for UNICEF. After Trump's inauguration, he marched in the Women's March.
