De dag van de korte film 2024
On the shortest day of the year, December 21, we celebrate Short Film Day. With a special film program, Eye, NFF and Go Short treat you to the best short films from our own country.
Short film is exciting, versatile and has something to offer for everyone. It is also the medium through which young film talent first presents itself. Yet short film often gets little time on the silver screen. In order to give more attention to short films, we have been celebrating Short Film Day for a few years now, on the shortest day of the year, both in the Netherlands and in various European countries.
We will show films by very talented makers, such as City of Poets (Sara Rajaei) which had its world premiere at the Berlinale and won the Golden Calf for Best Short Documentary at the Netherlands Film Festival this year, Marleen by Jop Leuven starring Laura Bakker who took home a Golden Calf for Best Leading Short Film. And January by Jetske Lieber won the KNF Award for Best Graduation Production in Utrecht. We start at 16:31, the time the sun sets that day in the Netherlands.
ProgramMarleen (Jop Leuven, 2024, 7') Lena is in group therapy, in which she talks about three defining relationships: the one with her father, with her first boyfriend and with Marleen, a colleague with whom she has met for the first time outside of work. It is Marleen's unexpectedly open view that makes Lena want to look at herself differently.
City of Poets (Sara Rajaei, 2024, 22') In a small, semi-utopian city, all the streets are named after poets. When the war starts, new neighborhoods spring up to accommodate the refugees. Soon, the citizens get lost among the memories of the forgotten poets.
Moustache (Idriss Nabil, 2024, 20') When Dalou (11) is confronted with the absence of his father, he decides to look for a 'replacement' with his best friend Coco (12). But when the search turns out to be more difficult than expected, their friendship is put to the test.
Skroll (Marten Visser, 2024, 7') Humans and some kind of gnomes have, in their animated dimension, posted videos on social media platforms. This film is a short compilation of these clips.
January (Jetske Lieber, 2024, 24') For twenty-something Willem, January begins with a large dose of heartbreak. He is confronted with the question: who am I, without my ex? Searching for himself, Willem struggles through circle birthdays, dark dance floors and climate action trainings. He goes through life like a chameleon, until Willem has to adopt his own color.
