Coal Harbour
June 2024 will mark the centenary of the death of writer Franz Kafka at a young age. In Kafkaesque, the Rotterdam band Coal Harbor takes Kafka's work as inspiration for new music. Franz Kafka is one of the most fascinating and influential writers of the 20th century. His oeuvre, often characterized as absurd and surreal, has had a profound influence on the literary and philosophical traditions of the past century. Kafka's work is also very relevant in today's world. Many recurring themes from his work, such as alienation and dehumanization, are still relevant.
With new music, inspired by the work of Kafka, Coal Harbor takes the listener to the world of the Czech writer and parallels are drawn between Kafka's world and the world of today. Coal Harbor is an eleven-member collective that pushes the boundaries between modern classical and modern jazz. With Kafkaësk, the Rotterdam collective builds on the well-received FEEDFORWARD, with which the band toured leading stages and festivals in 2022.
