Carrie: stem van de stad, sociaal bewogen en betrokken bij Rotterdam

A socially committed Rotterdammer and former lawyer Carrie talks about her involvement in social issues and her commitment to social projects in the city.

Carrie is a versatile Rotterdammer, known as a columnist for the AD Rotterdams Dagblad, writer and former social lawyer. At the age of 22 she moved to Rotterdam and worked as a social worker at the Youth Advice Centre (JAC). Carrie's involvement with the city and its residents was evident from initiatives such as the fashion show in 2001 for the girls of the Keileweg. With the project Queens of the Night she drew attention to their situation.

In addition, she was a radio columnist for the VARA program 'Spijkers met Koppen' and was involved in various social projects. In 2010, she obtained her master's degree in law and worked as a social lawyer. Since November 2023, she has been working at 'Samen voor alle Kinderen', a project aimed at combating poverty in Rotterdam.

During the city college “Carrie: voice of the city, socially committed and involved in Rotterdam”, Carrie talks about her work and involvement in social themes in the city.

Powerful Women Strong City

This city college is part of the Powerful Women Strong City program of the Rotterdam People's University. In 2025 it will be 50 years ago that the United Nations declared the International Year of Women. The Rotterdam People's University is no stranger when it comes to powerful women and female leadership. Ida van Dugteren was in charge of the day-to-day management of the Rotterdam People's University for no less than 40 years at a time (1918) when women were officially not allowed to be directors. Her story and that of many other women inside and outside Rotterdam symbolizes the progress we have made together. This year we bring these stories to life in the Powerful Women Strong City program.
