With 400,000 listeners per month, Danish duo Bremer/McCoy have created a subdued universe in a noisy time. A place of peace and connection, where words are superfluous and music sets the tone. Kosmos is the sixth album by the Danish duo and was released in 2024 on the renowned Luaka Bop label, founded by David Byrne in 1988. It has no flashy message, but whispers: come listen, come feel.
Although Bremer and McCoy started out as a reggae group, their sound has evolved into a mix of jazz, dub and neo-classical. Some of the songs on the new album Kosmos have been simmering for fifteen years, others were born in one intense improvisation session. Bremer/McCoy start without a plan and discover a direction together. As Jonathan Bremer says: “Only when you let go of the ego does space open up for what really needs to be heard.”
Their style is meditative, warm and melancholic. You can feel that in their concerts where the music is like a campfire — a place where you don't have to say anything to understand each other.
