Traditional Berber rhythms with the energy of rock and roll.
Bombino returns to GROUNDS! As a pioneer of the future generation of Tuaregs and a new voice of the Sahel and Sahara, he transforms an eternal sentiment into music, breathing life into it. His songs of peace and hope in his signature style that combines traditional Berber rhythms with the energy of rock & roll, take you on an intriguing journey through the rich cultural heritage of his people.
Actor, goatherd, politician and even private guide for Angelina Jolie during her visit to the desert region of Niger: Bombino's resume is impressive. And then we haven't even mentioned his career as a virtuoso musician. It started at a young age with a guitar that he borrowed from some family members. Thanks to the Ishumar songs and the videos of Jimi Hendrix, Mark Knopfler and Jimmy Page, he learned to play the guitar completely on his own. It soon became clear that this little boy ( bambino ) was exceptionally talented, which is why he was immediately asked to be part of his first band. Bombino was born! His rousing jams exude an atmosphere of resistance and rebellion, while sounding like guitar riffs reminiscent of other African musicians such as Tinariwen and Ali Farka Touré. This is certainly the case on his latest album Sahel (2023), Bombino's most personal, powerful and political album to date. The sonic diversity on this album is a direct reflection of the complex fabric of cultures and people that make up the Sahel region. So come aboard for this extraordinary nomadic experience, tighter and more energetic than ever before.
