Black tea

Black Tea , the new film by Abderrahmane Sissako ( Timbuktu ), is a dazzling film about forbidden romance and the art of tea making. On her wedding day, Aya (Nina Mélo), a young woman from Ivory Coast, leaves her husband at the altar. She flees to Guangzhou, China, where she finds work in Cai's (Han Chang) tea shop. He teaches her all the secrets of the trade: from the different types of tea to the old traditions of tea making. When Aya and Cai fall in love, the past continues to haunt them. Also, the African community is not fully accepted in China. Aya and Cai find a shared desire in each other, but can it withstand the prejudices of their environment? The world premiere of Black Tea was at the Berlin International Film Festival, where the film competed for the Golden Bear in the main competition.
