Black joy
an energetic theatre performance about resilience, connection and identity. In a wig factory, four black women try to find their place in a world that tries to break them.
Somewhere in the city there is a wig factory specializing in black hair. Three women keep the factory running with stories, music and unbreakable strength. The women get a new colleague: Joy. She does not live up to her name. She is exhausted. Fleeing from a world full of systems that pull her down. Yet here, between the hair and the heads, melodies resound that touch her. Here they sing, dance and laugh, even when everything is against them.
Can Joy surrender to the rhythms of the factory? Or will she remain trapped in her anger and doubts? BLACK JOY is a kaleidoscope of music, storytelling and dance, in which four black Dutch women transform their struggle into an explosion of energy. Theater Oostpool, together with Dawn Collective, presents an infectious show that searches for connection, even when you are driven apart. With a soundtrack of Motown, soul, gospel and R&B. A performance that touches, that connects and that you should not miss.
