Birthday Girl

Suspenseful Danish mother-daughter drama by Michael Noer in which Nanna (Trine Dyrholm) has invited her daughter Cille (Flora Ofelia Hoffmann Lindahl) and her friend on a cruise to celebrate Cille's 18th birthday. Anticipation is high and drinks are plentiful, but the festivities come to a sudden end when Cille is found alone on deck in the morning.

When it is suspected that she has been abused, mother and daughter find themselves in a complex chain of events, with Nanna realising that she must take matters into her own hands to find the perpetrator.

For some, a Caribbean cruise with their mother sounds like a great way to celebrate a special birthday. It’s supposed to be glamorous, luxurious and fun. Writer/director Michael Noer (known for Nordvest and Prisoner) uses the cruise ship as the setting for a gripping, single-location crime thriller that subtly weaves in a broader social message.
