Benjamin Herman - European Alto Festival

This autumn, Benjamin Herman is organizing a new edition of the European Alto Festival. The renowned alto saxophonist continues his tribute to the saxophonist Piet Noordijk, who died in 2011, with this special evening, which is entirely dedicated to the alto sax. With the festival, Herman wants to introduce the Dutch public to a new generation of heroes, and to intrigue and inspire them. “There are so many great European musicians who are invisible to jazz lovers in nearby countries. I'm really excited to be able to bring these crazy altoists here. They play really well, you don't know what you're hearing,” says Benjamin. Under his leadership, two exceptional talents will come together to spotlight the versatility and virtuosity of the European alto saxophone. This year, the British Sean Payne and the Portuguese Miguel Valente will shine on stage, supported by an all-star rhythm section consisting of the Italian pianist Francesca Tandoi, bassist Matheus Nicolaiewsky and drummer Sander Smeets. Line-up: Sean Payne, Miguel Valente, Benjamin Herman - alto sax Francesca Tandoi - piano Matheus Nicolaiewsky - double bass Sander Smeets - drums
