360 Degrees: Theo Parrish Talk

The Dancefloor as an Archive Ahead of his all-night set at BIRD, the legendary Detroit DJ and producer Theo Parrish will be in conversation with journalist and presenter Andrew Makkinga. Not a standard look back at his career, but a personal conversation about the music, cities and places that have shaped him. From his first musical memories and childhood in Chicago to his move to Detroit, the development of his own sound and the special interaction between a DJ, the space and the people on the dance floor. Theo and Andrew will also talk about how music is passed on from generation to generation. What happens when old records are discovered by new ears? What role do clubs, record stores and sound systems play in this? And what is at risk of being lost when independent cultural spaces disappear? Through stories and personal memories, a conversation emerges about music, history, club culture and the power of the dance floor. At the end, the audience will also have the chance to join the conversation.
