Saira is extra heartbroken when her cool girlfriend Kiki breaks up with her. But when Kiki gets kidnapped by the Straight White Maliens who take her far away from Clitopolis to their very dangerous straight territory, Saira is determined to win Kiki back. A few moments later Saira steps out of her comfort zone and goes on a inter-gay-lactic quest to rescue Kiki with the help of a mansplaining spaceship and the company of the queer-pop music icon, Willow.

Lesbian Space Princess brings color, cheeky humor, and celebration of sci-fi queerness that playfully challenges heteronormative narratives. With its anime influences like Neon Genesis Evangelion or Revolutionary Girl Utena, the film is wrapped in neon and colorful visuals, gay weapons, blades, and musical highlights. The scariest thing for Saira is actually not to battle with the dangerous hetero creatures of the universe, but to find the confidence in herself and her power. She may not be the coolest princess of Clitopolis, but she’s the bravest; and that’s what makes her cool.

The debut feature of co-directors and partners Emma Hough Hobbs and Leela Varghese won the Audience Award at Adelaide Film Festival 2024 and the Teddy Award for best queer film at the Berlinale 2025.
