BLKNWS: Terms & Conditions is a cinematic experience designed to mirror the textures of a music album. Through a multi-layered narrative spanning over 200 years of history, the film traces the journey of the Black diaspora by mixing Afrofuturism, archival footage, memes, and personal history to create a mesmerising audiovisual experience. More than a film, BLKNWS: Terms and Conditions feels like witnessing a monument imbued with Black symbolism and profound historical significance. It is meant to be seen, heard, understood, and felt with all your senses.

Enveloped in a perfectly curated electronica-fuelled soundtrack, the film’s unique soundscape features iconic guest artists including Flying Lotus, Klein, and Aphex Twin. The poetic flow of images and history unravelling in perfect harmony with the music creates a unique world that has never been felt or experienced before. The multi-layered narrative symbolises the feeling of displacement and fragmentation, central to the Black diaspora and Black experience.

Kahlil Joseph is best known for his work on Beyoncé’s music film Lemonade, Kendrick Lamar’s M.A.A.D City, and FKA Twigs’ Video Girl. Originally presented as an installation at the 2019 Venice Biennale, BLKNWS: Terms and Conditions screened at the 2025 edition of Sundance and Berlinale film festivals. Created as an homage to his late brother Noa Davis, co-founder of the Underground Museum in Los Angeles, BLKNWS feels as much like a tribute to Black culture as it does to Joseph’s brother’s experimental spirit.
