An Intimate Celebration at De Kunstfabriek Presented by Camilo S & Jeff Seven.
Rotterdam is often called the “second capital” of Cape Verde, and with good reason.
Since Cape Verde gained independence on July 5, 1975, a strong and vibrant diaspora has flourished here. In the harbors, in the music, in entrepreneurship, and in the very cultural heartbeat of the city, Cape Verde lives on vibrantly, deeply and proudly.
But too often, the perception of Cape Verdean creativity is limited to the familiar: music, food, and nightlife. While those are vital parts of our culture, they are not the whole story. We’re here to shift that narrative. On July 4th, Camilo S and Jeff Seven invite you to De Kunstfabriek, to present fine arts artist Sandim Mendes and director/photographer Nuno Boaventura Miranda — two artists who represent the depth, range, and evolution of Cape Verdean expression. It’s time to challenge expectations and be part of a new, disruptive cultural movement.
Together we pause to reflect on 50 years of independence.
Together we honor the generation that built a home here.
Together we explore what it means to be Cape Verdean. Here and now, in Rotterdam.
Expect a warm, immersive evening filled with the rhythms of morna and funaná, the flavors of Cape Verdean cuisine, stories from the past, and visions for the future.
