Workshop: Ontdek jouw Surinaamse familiegeschiedenis

In this workshop you will discover how to do family tree research in practice and where you can find information about Surinamese ancestors. We discuss what it means that Surinamese ancestors can come from all over the world. And we show the difficulties and possibilities of finding data about enslaved ancestors. You will also receive tips on how to find out the origin and explanation of your own surname and you will learn what DNA research can add to your search.

The workshop is organized by the municipality of Rotterdam in collaboration with Pieter Bol. He is the administrator of the source website of the Foundation for Surinamese Genealogy (SSG) and editor-in-chief of Wi Rutu, magazine for Surinamese Genealogy. The foundation offers a helping hand to novice and advanced researchers. More information can be read at www.surinaamsegenealogie.nl . The SSG resources website is freely accessible to everyone and is constantly supplemented with new sources and information.
